Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
The Marketing Director oversees the marketing and external communications efforts of the Liberty Fund, including promoting our events, managing social media activity, and ensuring campaigns and marketing efforts related to our book publishing program and digital properties (libertyfund.org, Econlib, Law & Liberty, OLL, and AdamSmithWorks) are consistent with our brand, tell our story well, and reach and engage the audiences we have identified as critical for executing our strategy and pursuing our mission.
The Marketing Director will report to the President & CEO. Ideally, the Marketing Director will work from Liberty Fund’s Carmel, Indiana office, but we will also consider exceptional candidates who want to work virtually and travel to Carmel as needed.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Works with the CEO to establish and execute a brand strategy and a brand that supports the overall organizational strategy.
- Works with the Management team to establish Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) for Liberty Fund’s marketing activities.
- Works with the CTO, COO, and program staff to ensure Liberty Fund’s in-person and online experiences are consistent with our brand and reflect positively on the organization.
- Works with the CEO to craft a brand story and supporting narratives that Liberty Fund uses to shape marketing efforts, external communications, and social and traditional media activity, and ensures our online presence tells Liberty Fund’s story well – and consistently.
- Works with the Management team and Liberty Fund program staff to devise effective marketing strategies and campaigns for the organization.
- Conducts analysis of data collected from digital marketing and communications activities and shares key insights with program staff and the management team; prepares periodic marketing reports for the Management team and Board of Directors.
- Works with the Chief Technology Officer to make improvements to Liberty Fund’s data infrastructure and ability to use marketing data effectively.
- Manages and reviews marketing agency-partners that execute Liberty Fund marketing activities across our various channels, including social media, website properties, and email communication.
- Works with the COO, CTO, and the VP Controller to develop budgets for each fiscal year and to execute marketing activities according to budget.
- Manages the marketing of Liberty Fund books, with a special emphasis on expanding our readership and in using data to get better insights into the academic book market.

- Excellent task-management and organizational skills, with experience in creating and managing efficient processes.
- Advanced knowledge of market research and metrics, audience demographics, paid digital/social media advertising, and multichannel marketing.
- Willingness to travel 10-20%.
Education and Experience Qualifications
- Minimum seven years’ related experience.
- Alignment with and passion for Liberty Fund’s mission.
- Experience shaping and executing brand strategy for idea-driven organizations.
- Experience using data and analytics in strategic planning and in improving marketing data infrastructure and operations.
- Experience in working with agencies and other external vendors and service providers.
- Minimum of Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from an accredited college or university.
