The Politics of Shakespeare in the Age of James I

ABSTRACT

The conference explored political issues such as the nature and purpose of politics, the relationship between religion and politics, the proper balance between the personal and the political, as well as between the sovereign and subordinate units within the political order, using selected readings from five plays written late in Shakespeare's career: King Lear, Macbeth, Coriolanus, The Tempest, and The Winter's Tale.
