Political Theory

Three Critics of the Rise of Collectivism: Berlin, Hayek, and Oakeshott

ABSTRACT

Writing at roughly the same time, Berlin, Hayek, and Oakeshott were all critics of collectivism on the right and left during the twentieth century. However, as much as they hated collectivist political regimes, they all did so for different reasons and proposed different political alternatives. In this conference we read selections from all three writers and compared their alternative critiques and proposed solutions to fascism and communism.
