The Idea of Justice summarizes approximately twenty-five years of Sen’s thinking about questions of justice. He believes that some comparative judgments about justice and injustice are manifest, and it is through a process Sen describes as “public reasoning” that a social assessment of human capabilities and their evaluative weightings is accomplished, and that basic rights are determined. In examining the broad theory of justice presented by Sen, we explored the relationships between justice and freedom, justice and individual rights, and human well-being and public policy.
