Classical Liberal Economic Thinking in Brazil

ABSTRACT

This conference was about the thought of Professor Eugenio Gudin Filho (1886-1986), a highly influential precursor of sound economic thinking in Brazil. The idea was not to have a discussion with an emphasis on the person and circumstances of Professor Gudin, but to focus on his ideas about inflation (a constant worry for him) and his thoughts about classical liberalism, economic development, foreign investment, and socialism. Discussing the life and work of Professor Gudin may be a cautionary tale that may help us to better understand what is necessary in order to better promote the ideal of a society of free and responsible individuals not only in Brazil, but taking Brazil as an example as well.
