The Future of Capitalism

ABSTRACT

It has been argued that the single most important factor to explain skepticism about free markets among the public in general and intellectuals during the twentieth century was the Great Depression. If that is true, may it not be the case that the current economic crisis and the seemingly “efficient” way in which a major catastrophe similar to the one that followed the crash of 1929 was averted will become another anti–free market paradigm? This conference addressed those questions openly.
