The Political and Legal Philosophy of James Wilson

ABSTRACT

This colloquium looked at James Wilson's legal and political philosophy, including his rationales for a number of constitutional principles and the connections he makes between natural law, common law, and the developing field of the “law of nations,” a branch of jurisprudence then being developed in Scotland and which was rooted in the belief that long-term economic success requires a secure legal structure.
