Political Theory

Lysander Spooner on Law, Liberty, and Revolution

ABSTRACT

The colloquium focused on Spooner's moral and political philosophy and followed the progression of that philosophy throughout his career from a (relatively) moderate reformer to a radical antistatist. Writings highlighting Spooner's theory of natural law, his thoughts on the connection between natural law and the justification of property and economic liberty, and his theories of political authority and legitimate resistance to unjust authority received special attention.
