Liberty, Responsibility, and the Birth of the New Conservatism

ABSTRACT

This conference examined the forces that lead to the nomination of Barry Goldwater at the 1964 Republican National Convention and the rebirth of conservatism as an important element in American national politics. The readings included works by both William F. Buckley Jr., an early supporter and friend of Goldwater, as well as Goldwater's best-selling The Conscience of a Conservative and his later memoirs With No Apologies.
