Liberty, Politics, and the Process of Market Transformation in East Central Europe

ABSTRACT

This colloquium examined to what extent the systemic change from socialism to a free society in East Central Europe was under the control of policy makers, and why they made the kinds of decisions they did. In the course of this investigation, the conference explored the role of government in the creation of markets, and the relationship between institutions and culture.
