Liberty and Secularization

ABSTRACT

Questions about the compatibility of science and religion are hotly debated. Looming in the background of these exchanges is the great question of the viability of a secular civilization. Is there any role left for the authority of a faith that transcends this world? Or is is it possible to find a new modus vivendi for the twin authorities of reason and faith, science and religion, that avoids the kind of struggle from which only one can emerge?
