ABSTRACT

Discoveries linking Juan de Mariana to the thinking of such important American Founders as Thomas Jefferson and James Madison appear to confirm that the Jesuit philosopher's significance may be more substantial and extensive than heretofore understood. This conference was on the meaning of Mariana's sometimes controversial and still evolving status vis-a-vis the history of political and economic thought.
