Galileo Galilei and Freedom of Thought and Expression
This conference discussed Galileo's discoveries and writings through several texts, including The Starry Messenger and his Dialogues Concerning Two Chief World Systems. Conferees also explored writings of opponents of Galileo in the Catholic Church, including Cardinal Bellarmine, in order to examine the tensions between religion and science, as well as the importance of free inquiry for scientific advancement.
