E. G. West’s “Education and the State”

ABSTRACT

The year 2015 marked the fiftieth anniversary of the publication of E. G. West's Education and the State. This landmark work gave us a true history of public education in the United Kingdom, as well as a bird's-eye view of the politics that had so demeaned it. This conference revisited this oft-neglected work and considered its implications for educational structure and policy today.
